My Story:

Mr Fahrenheit

    Whats in a name?

After 7 years of releasing under the 2.6.x versions, out of nowehere, Linux Torvalds decided to name the next release of linux 3.0.0.  Not because there was 0.3.x worth of changes in the next release, it was simply done for marketing reasons.

Many people get confused by release version increments of 0.0.1x, perhaps it is our inability to correctly grasp escessively small, or excessively large numbers?  So they are opting for nice, even, marketable whole numbers: similar to aol's numbering scheme that was easy  (aol 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, etc).

It would seem that even linux nerds are unable to escape the laws of marketing :)

    Coupon Fraud Contraversy

The nerd in me only cares about the technical details on how it works.  Apparently, coupons are matched based on a 5 digit family code derived from the UPC.  So if you have a $2.00 coupon for a 12 pack of pop, and its family code matches a 20oz bottle, you could possibly get the 20oz for free by committing fraud.  I am surprised such an obviousl loop hole even exists, let alone that it must have existed for over 20 years.  Oh well, garbage in, garbage out ;)

I always wondered how they would score such a good deal. Pretty crazy that the store employees did not make a scene about it.

Performance is terrible, despite all of the performance / tablet optimized hype. Oh well, weill just have to wait for google to fix their broken html5 honeycomb support :)
